The 2025 Judging Categories Finalised

Judging Categories

Starting in 2024, we introduced two distinct judging formats: [1] Basic Category Judging and [2] Food Pairing Judging.
Instead of categorising sake by the types indicated on their labels, this unique evaluation focuses on the characteristics of the sake and its compatibility with food, aiming to delve deeper into the preferences of Australian consumers and the Australian market.

Both the Basic Category Judging and Food Pairing Judging are divided into five subcategories each.

[1] Basic Category

In 2025, we refined the basic category descriptions for greater clarity.

  1. Sparkling
  2. Light / Dry
  3. Light / Fragrant
  4. Rich / Fruity
  5. Rich / Savoury

[2] Food Pairing Category
We also introduced a revamped menu for the food categories.

  1. Vietnamese Beef Salad with Vermicelli
    (Mild chili/spice)
  2. Grilled Barramundi and Broccolini with Butter Sauce
  3. Fried Chicken / Karaage
  4. Spaghetti Napoletana
    (Tomato-based)
  5. Mushroom Pizza
    (White sauce base, no tomato)

Awards Categories

In 2025, the “Sessionable Award” will be replaced by the “Judge’s Choice Award.”
This award honors sake that deeply impressed the judges, regardless of category or criteria. It will be selected through a voting process, chosen from the top 10% of entries overall.

The entry period is from Monday, January 6, 2025, to Friday, February 28, 2025.
