The judging for the Australian Sake Awards took place for the second year running, in Sydney, on July 22nd, 2023.

We were delighted to have received 104 submissions, from 52 breweries, for judging in this year’s awards.

Once again, this year’s group of judges, (51 in total), included Australian sommeliers, sake retailers, food and beverage industry professionals, sake qualification holders and sake importers and wholesalers. 

All sake was tasted blind, in wine tasting glasses, and each judge assessed a total of approx 45 sake. 

Thanks to the National Research Institute of Brewing (Japan) for sponsoring us this year’s Awards. The judges’ scores have now all been tallied and we are excited to be able to announce all the award winners for 2023. 

The highest scoring sake from each category has been selected.

• Platinum Award: the top-ranked sake in each category
• Gold Award: top 20% of the total number of sake entered in each category
• People’s Choice: top 10% of the total number of sake voted by judges
